An event celebrating Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. This event will feature an engaging lecture featuring Professor Robert Malcolm R. Barclay, Department of Biological Science, University of Calgary, Question and Answer period, and catered reception.
Bats are a fascinating group of over 1300 species world wide, the second most species-rich group of mammals! Their wings presented Darwin with a challenge – how do such features evolve when the intermediate forms (i.e. partial wings) are non-functional? Present-day bats also face challenges – novel environmental factors such as white-nose syndrome and wind turbines put species at risk of extinction. Can they evolve fast enough to survive these?
