Chasing Summer at Fort Calgary (Friday, Aug. 8 and Saturday, Aug. 9)

Chasing Summer gets some big DJs and a site-wide liquor licence for its outdoor hootenanny at Fort Calgary. Tiesto and Adventure Club are the big names Friday; Hardwell and New World Punx are the top draws Saturday. The early bird tickets have been snapped up, but you can get the $149 weekend pass, the $189 VIP ticket or the premium VIP cabana for $6,000 for you and nine friends. Single day tickets are $99.

Danny Brown at Ten Nightclub (Friday, Aug. 8)

Never mind letting Danny Brown get into his zone, last time he tried to play Calgary, we wouldn’t let him into the country. He had to cancel his appearance with Action Bronson at the last minute when he was turned away at the border. Hopefully he makes it for this show. Stay turned to his Twitter feed, but it’s not looking great (though he’s since deleted that Tweet below). If he does make it in, it’ll be a great show and well worth the $35.

Phaeleh at The Republik (Saturday, Aug. 9)

If Tiesto and the mainstream DJs of Chasing Summer aren’t your EDM cup of tea, then Phaeleh offers a good alternative. The U.K.-based producer puts out some cool stuff on his Soundcloud. Tickets are an entirely reasonable $15 to $18 at Ticketfly.

Calgary Fringe Festival in Inglewood (Until Saturday, Aug. 9)

It’s the final weekend of the Fringe (which was also mentioned in our Family-Friendly 5 Things To Do blog over here). Earlier in the week, I highlighted some of the best-reviewed shows from Calgary Herald critics (scroll down to the bottom of the post). You can cherry-pick the critically-lauded shows or just drop by one of the five Best of Fest shows on Saturday at five different venues. All the info you need for the final weekend of the fest is over at calgaryfringe.ca.

Clouds in Cloudless Skies by Hello Moth video launch at Lolita’s Lounge (Sunday, Aug. 10)

The solo performer who goes by the name Hello Moth was a festival regular this summer around town, opening for St. Vincent at Sled Island and playing the Calgary Folk Music Festival. He celebrates the release of his cool code-created music video for “Clouds in Cloudless Skies” by Irish artist/programmer Glenn Marshall. The video premieres in New York tonight and the Moth flies home for a second showing this weekend at Lolita’s. Check out the video above and pop-in to the show on Sunday for $10. Before the video, both Jocelyn & Lisa and Hello Moth will play live sets. More info about the event can be found on Facebook.

Bonus Ridiculous Tumblr of the Weekend: Slug Solos

Rock stars make some weird faces when they’re rocking out. You can dial up the surreality of it all by turning their guitar into a slug, thought someone on the internet. Mission accomplished. -Jon Roe
