The laughs are on track for Calgary, but there is no need for a laugh track.
Tickets for the YYComedy Fest go on sale Monday, July 22. The lineup has already been announced, and it’s an impressive array of standups, improvisers and assorted yuksters. (It’s all the more impressive given that this is just the second year for the feat that got started with a little seed money from Calgary 2012.)
Leading the charge are Kids in the Hall alumni Dave Foley and Kevin McDonald. Neither is here for a long time, but each should provide a good time. McDonald will host the Canadian Champs of Comedy on Sept. 14. The event will live up to its name as it brings together six winners of the Canadian Comedy Award for best standup. The roster included Derek Edwards, Nikki Payne and Steve Patterson. (Patterson, pictured above, will also host an episode of CBC Radio’s The Debaters as part of the festival.)
Foley will preside over the closing night gala, whose performers include Edwards, Patterson, Payne, Naomi Snieckus (Mr. D) and Matt Baram (Seed).
The festival runs Monday, Sept. 9 to Sunday, Sept. 15 at various venues. For more information and to buy tickets, check out yycomedy.ca.
