The celebrated underground hip-hop artist hits the HiFi Club for a Monday-night set. J-Live (a.k.a. Jean-Jacques Cadet) left his career as a school teacher to pursue his music. Tickets are still available at Zoobis.

Ignite! Kick Off Party and Fundraiser at Pumphouse Theatre (Wednesday, June 12)
Sage Theatre’s annual festival of new plays starts with a fundraiser for the theatre company. The fest itself gets going on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. with Ocean Fox, a docudrama about American diver Jef Fox. John Vaillant at Pages Kensington (Wednesday, June 12)

You don’t want to be on a tiger’s bad side. John Vaillant’s book, The Tiger: A True Story of Vengeance and Survival, tells the story of a man-eating tiger’s assault on a village in Russia. The Governor General’s-award-winner reads from the book (as well as from his novel-in-progress0 at Pages.
