Readers continue to submit their favourite hole-in-the-wall restaurants. In this instalment, it’s a shawarma showdown on 17th Avenue. Head for the southeast or the southwest; either way the final destination is delicious.

Shawarma Palace

3820 17th Ave. S.E., 403-273-5555

Phil Brien writes: “A location that looks like it was once a fast food chain is now home to a humble Mediterranean food place that belies the ‘palace’ label.  I’ve been to a few great donair and shawarma places around town, but this is the first one I’ve come across to offer lamb ($7.50).  It really was an awesome taste!  Crispy grilled meat on the outside, succulent moist on the inside, with lots of veggie fixings and sweet garlic sauce. Highly recommend it. I’ll be back soon.”

Little Lebanon
