It’s music to the ears of fans of the CPO: on Saturday, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra welcomes back Maestro Hans Graf, who holds the honourary lifetime title of music director laureate with the organization. Graf was music director with the CPO from 1995-2003.

And there’s another returnee as well: “ultimate Beethoven master” pianist Anton Kuerti is performing the program, which consists of  Scriabin Reverie, Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 2 and Rachmaninoff Symphony No. 3.  Come early for a pre-concert chat at 7:10 p.m.; the show is at 8 p.m. Tickets for the event at the Jack Singer Concert Hall start at $19.

This video of Kuerti is a fascinating look at the pianist preparing his instrument and talking about his life and career. (Who knew? The man cannot carry a tune!) It was shot in the fall at the Scotiabank Northern Lights Music Festival in Mexico.
