It’s a topic that’s always up for discussion in Alberta, but how much do you know about the oilsands? The vast resource is the focal point Oil Sands 101, a free lecture series that begins Tuesday, Jan. 22.
Presented by The Calgary Association of Lifelong Learners (CALL) in conjunction with the Petroleum History Society the lunch-hour talks get underway with The Visionaries – Five Oils Sands Pioneers. The session features petroleum journalist and historian Peter McKenzie-Brown and is facilitated by CBC Radio’s Doug Dirks.
Future topics include oil sands economics (Feb. 5) with energy economics consultant Paul Precht; Canada’s Oilsands: Challenges and Opportunities (Feb. 19), with Jennifer Grant of the Pembina Institute; and February 26, Oil Sands Monitoring (Feb. 26), with
Ernie Hui, CEO, Environment Monitoring Agency of Alberta Environment and Sustainable Development.
The free event takes place at the Glenbow Museum‘s theatre (130 9th Ave S.E.) from noon to 1 p.m. The series runs through Feb. 26.
