One of the favourite family events of the season is back and brighter than ever. This year, there are 1.5 million Christmas lights in the annual Zoo Lights display at the Calgary Zoo. And while it’s always fun to stroll through the extensive holiday explosion of lights, it’s even more enjoyable when the mercury isn’t plunging. With this week’s warming trend, it might be an ideal time for a visit.
In addition to the light displays, check out a new Water Wonderland Kids Zone, SantaVision (which lets kids talk directly to Santa in the North Pole and the convo is downloadable as a keepsake) and fire pits to warm your tootsies by. On Friday and Saturday nights, there are also ice carving demonstrations and live entertainment from Calgary choirs (most weekends).
Running through Jan. 5 (except Dec. 25 and Dec. 31), the event goes from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. nightly. Gates close at 8:30 p.m. And if you bring along a non-perishable donation to the food bank and receive a two-for-one admission for a future visit to the zoo.
