Looking for a last-minute idea to ring in the New Year? Pop on the cowboy hat and head downtown, as Johnny Reid headlines Citytv’s free concert at Olympic Plaza.
The country star headlines a lineup that includes Serena Ryder, Victoria Duffield and Massari. Breakfast Television’s Tara Slone, Ted Henley, Andrew Schultz and Jill Belland are hosting, along with Mookie Wilson from Lite 95.9. Presented in partnership with the City of Calgary, the family-friendly event winds up with Mayor Naheed Nenshi counting down to midnight, followed by fireworks. The concert gets underway at 10 p.m. and is part of the station’s cross-country New Year’s coverage, which also includes parties in Toronto and Edmonton. The televised City New Year’s Eve Bash 2013 gets going at 8 p.m., Calgary time.
Or, if some members of your household need to be in bed before midnight, check out the family dance party and countdown at the Municipal Building (800 Macleod Trail). There will be games, dancing, New Year’s Eve hat craft, fire dancers and more. Plus, the kids’ countdown at 9 p.m. means a more realistic bedtime for some. This event is also free to attend and gets going at 7 p.m. Organizers are asking people to wear white, neon or “anything that glows.”
