If you’re driving through small towns on the Prairies this holiday season, chances are more than good that you will spot at least one Chinese restaurant that looks to have been in its wood-sided building for decades.
The exhibit Chop Suey on the Prairies, on at the Museum of the Highwood in High River, opens the door on the history those restaurants, examining the role they played in their communities. The museum is the last venue for the travelling exhibit from The Royal Alberta Museum and it added some items from its collection that “highlight the stories of Chinese restaurants in the Highwood area.”
(Note that the museum is closed for the holidays from Monday, Dec. 24 through Tuesday, Jan. 1, reopening on Wednesday, Jan. 2. The exhibit runs through February.)
