With the likelihood of an NHL season growing increasingly distant, a nation’s attention, to say nothing of its obsession, is turning to the World Junior Tournament, which begins today in Ufa, Russia.
Of course Russia is also fairly distant, and the attendant time difference will see serious local hockey fans staying up until 2 a.m. for the opening faceoff of the Canada-Germany game on Boxing Day.
But dedicated fans who also treasure their sleep can have their puck and eat it too by checking out the Mac’s Midget AAA World Invitational Tournament.
The 35th annual tournament goes Wednesday, Dec. 26 to Tuesday, Jan. 1 at various local arenas. There will be no saddened Prime Ministers, no talk of salary caps and no lawsuits. It’ll just be the good old hockey game. A day pass to all games is $10, a tournament pass is $45 and both are available at Mac’s stores.
