Long before J.K. Rowling conjured up He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, there was another legendary character who played the name game. Rumpelstiltskin is having a bit of a moment right now, with a leading role on the hit TV series Once Upon a Time (pictured above). And now Loose Moose Theatre for Kids is presenting a play about the magical imp Nov. 3 through Nov. 25.
The group know what it’s doing when it comes to introducing young ones to the arts. If there is something seriously scary in the play, it’s explained to the kids first. The plays offer plenty of kid-friendly humour, and the lively stories keep kids engaged throughout the performances. They don’t forget about the adults in the audience, though. In The Ugly Duckling, which kicked off this season, the Canadian geese delivered their lines through the filter of Bob and Doug McKenzie, eh?
Tickets are $12 each and don’t forget to bring a pocket full of quarters for the red Twizzlers at the snack bar. The theatre is located on the second floor of the Crossroads Market, 1235 26th Ave. S.E. —Ruth Myles
