Psst: want to know a secret? Getting your hands dirty is part of the fun when it comes to being creative.
Unleash your inner artist at the P.I.Y.: Print It Yourself! Festival taking place this Saturday and Sunday as part of Art Walk. Presented by The Alberta Printmakers’ Society, the third-annual event lets you learn about printmaking techniques and make your own artwork.
Don’t worry: there will be instructors on hand to help you make silkscreened t-shirts, drypoint etchings, linoleum block prints and Kitchen Lithography. That last one is a relatively new technique that creates images using items from around the house, such as cola and tinfoil, plus a roller or two and some ink. Check out the video and prepare to have your creative spark ignited. (Yes, the inital imaged is “painted” with butter. Butter!)
It’s all free of charge (unless you want to create a T-shirt, then there’s a $5 fee involved) and you should bring your own bag or shirt (light colours only, please) if that’s what you want to create. It all goes down at the Artist Proof Gallery, 2010F 11th St. S.E. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. There will also be shirts and bags on hand for purchase. Visit albertaprintmakers.ca for more info.
