1. KC and the Sunshine Band at Century Casino Calgary (Saturday, Sept. 1)
If you know where to find one of those suits, you need to tell me immediately because they are amazing. If you own one and don’t want to give it to me, I understand. But at least wear it and shake, shake, shake your Saturday night away at the Century Casino Calgary showroom.
2. Trampled By Turtles at the Republik (Saturday, Sept. 2)
The bluegrass band covers the Arcade Fire in this cool, ongoing video series that the AV Club does each summer (which, strangely enough, really makes me want to drink Starbucks). These guys can shred pretty hard, as exhibited below.
3. Donovan Deschner at Yuk Yuk’s (Friday, Aug. 31 and Saturday, Sept. 1)
The Red Carpet Comedy main man gets his first headlining stint at the local Yuk Yuk’s. He’s also in the middle of doing five new minutes of standup a week for a year. See how Week 14 treats him.
4. Tailgate at the Labour Day Classic (Monday, Sept. 3)
For some tips on how to do it properly at the CFL contest between the Stamps and the Edmonton Eskimos, see this week’s cover story by Bruce Weir.
5. Calgary and Canmore Highland Games (Saturday, Sept. 1 and Sunday, Sept. 2, respectively)
Before I give you the link to the Canmore Highland Games’ website, it is my Blogger’s Duty to warn you to turn off or mute your speakers before you click—unless you really wanted a blast of bag pipes to draw attention to your cubicle. Are they off? Good. Here you go. Also, check out Jacquie Moore’s four facts from this week’s issue for some background information.
Pride Parade starting at Olympic Plaza, ending at Shaw Millennium Park along Stephen Avenue (Sunday, Sept. 2); BBQ on the Bow at Eau Claire (Sunday, Sept. 2); X-Fest at Fort Calgary (Saturday, Sept. 1); Choose Yer Own fest (Friday, Aug. 31 to Sunday, Sept. 2).
